The chair of troubled club Coventry City Tim Fisher has confirmed that the club was still planning on leaving Ricoh Arena.


He met with a supporters’ group where he announced thatthe club’s RFC Chairman Jon Sharp had agreed to a move that will see them share the Coventry Rugby’s Butts Park Arena.

Fisher said the owners of the club Sisu no longer have plans for a new stadium. The club is contracted to remain at Ricoh until next year.

“We weren’t able to close a land deal on our own stadium – full stop. But we have spent a lot of time working with the Football League and Coventry Rugby Club to develop a stadium which would be more than ample in terms of capacity,” Fisher said.

BROWNE TO JOIN COVENTRY CITY ON LOAN

West Ham United young midfielder, Marcus Browne has been linked to a loan move from the club to Coventry City and rumors on Twitter says the youngster has been on City’s radar since December.


Revelations by Telegraph have it that the youngster could move quite sooner than expected to the club side.

Last month, December, had seen representatives of Sky Blues in attendance as the 19 year old attacking midfielder featured for the Under 23s of West Ham in a game against Wolves.

On Twitter, Browne has also been in contact with Jodi Jones, one of Coventry City’s players, thus sparking speculations that in no distant time, they could be teammates.

Earlier in the season, during the Checkatrade Trophy, the young midfielder had featured for West Ham against City and had showed off a very impressive form.

COVENTRY CITY MIGHT PLAY AWAY FROM HOME

Coventry City might play away from their ‘home,’ according to developments regarding a long-term stadium.


The future of the club is unclear as they are set to go without a home when their agreement to play at Ricoh Arena expires next year. Fans have asked that the club owners, Sisu, sell to better managers. Even the chair of the Football Association, Greg Clarke has expressed his disappointment with the situation at the club. He was speaking at the Culture, Media and Sport committee in Westminster.

“Coventry City is a very, very sad case. It’s a fine football club 20 miles from my home town and I still remember them winning the FA Cup.

“Their fans have had a torrid time and the bad blood that now exists between the owners, the fans, the local council has failed to be healed by multiple acts of mediation by the Football League,” said Clarke.

The Telegraph newspaper in the city is campaigning that the owners sell after documenting years of falling revenues, attendances and league positions. The club only returned to Ricoh for two years after reaching an agreement in 2014. A rent issue forced the club to play home games in Northampton. Tony Mowbray gave the impression of getting twitchy after Coventry’s third scoreless draw in as many as four home appearances this season. His words post Oldham game reflected frustration as he admitted he had had enough of poor results.

Coventry To Focus On FC Development

Owners of Coventry City FC have been launching legal action which has not been found favorable by the supporter group of the football club.

Sisu has decided to discontinue any legal action that it might have planned to take against the council. The focus would be on the future of the club instead. This was made clear in a statement issued by Sky Blue trust. They welcomed a statement from the court which held up a previous judgement that was passed. Coventry city council was found not to have acted unlawfully in the financing of the loan to the Ricoh Arena Company. Sky Blue Trust, one of the largest supporter groups of the football club, felt that the matter had been drawn out long enough. It was distracting the club owners from the main focus that is how making the club performs more successfully in upcoming games.

The group also voiced their concern about the legal battle draining out most of the resources of the club. When it was hinted that the case might be moved to Supreme Court or European Commission that was when the largest support group of the club has intervened.
