Coventry City manager Andy Thorn has said that he is looking at the prospect of making some quick signings before the start of the new season. The club were relegated from the Championship last season, while a transfer embargo was also placed on the club.

However, the football league recently revealed that the transfer embargo that has been placed upon Coventry City now stands removed. As a result, the club will be able to sign players ahead of the start of the new season. Andy Thorn has said that he is extremely delighted with the decision taken by the football league and is looking to make quick signings in order to make the squad competitive prior to the start of the new season.

Even though Thorn has admitted that the club have not been able to get a number of their top priority targets due to the transfer embargo, he has said that he has a list of players who would be equally good for the club, whilst he’d also be looking to get a few playes in on loan from the top clubs like Man Utd or Tottenham.

It was thought that Andy Thorn was looking at the possibility of bringing Shrewsbury town striker James Collins, while Bradford city midfielder David Syers has also been linked heavily with the club. However, they have decided to join other clubs instead due to the transfer embargo.

“It’s a big weight off our shoulders. The shackles are off and all the hard work can start now to try to do some business and we want to try to get as many as we can.I haven’t been off the phone all day after we got the news through, which is great, and there are more people who fancy coming. It’s disappointing that we lost out on players who we had shown round the Ricoh and wanted to sign but it is nice now that we can go and do something, so let’s see what we can get,” said Thorn.

There has been a lot of speculation that Coventry City will be docked 10 points from the table prior to the start of the next season. The club recently relegated from the Championship and finished one place above the bottom of the table. Just when it was thought that Coventry City will be making a number of high-profile signings in order to look towards returning to the Championship in the first instance, there has been rumours of a 10 point deduction for the club if they fail to submit their accounts before the end of this month.

However, the club have moved in swiftly to say that such rumours are extremely wide of the mark and that the club are extremely confident of submitting their accounts prior to the end of this month. The club is also currently on a transfer embargo, but that has been put on hold until the decision is taken on their future. The club has been struggling with finances for quite a while now, but this season finally proved to be the last season of struggle as they slipped down the relegation table.

The club also denied accusations that a debenture has been taken against the assets of the owner Sisu.

“It’s normal business practice and just means that one Sisu company has call on assets of another Sisu company. If you didn’t do that you’d need your head looking at,” said City CEO Tim Fisher when asked about the possibility of the club doing a debenture. The club finished the Championship season just one place above the bottom and had just 40 points on the board. The fans, though, will be hoping for a much better season next year where they could struggle in the League One if they are docked 10 points.
