Coventry City suffered yet another disappointing result in the league after a 3-0 defeat against Swindon Town. More than the result, manager Steven Pressley was concerned by the lack of goals from his team over the last few weeks.
This has been a major issue for Coventry, as the League One. Unsurprisingly, they are struggling very close to the relegation zone as the season just enters into the new calendar year. Adding to the goal scoring woes, the team has also struggled to keep clean sheets. After managing to get two shutouts in the last two matches, Coventry slipped at the back once again against Swindon.
The upcoming match against Gillingham, who are close to them in the table, will be very important for Coventry. Another defeat could see them struggle with a lack of confidence going into the business end of the season.
It would also provide Gillingham with a boost at just the right stage in the season. A win, though, will give the team a huge boost in confidence levels especially given that they have won just twice in the last five matches. Pressley will be aware that this poor sequence cannot continue for long if the club are to avoid relegation.
“I want us to score more goals it is as simple as that. We need to score more goals at home and I want to see us improve at the Ricoh Arena, we have to handle playing here. Inconsistency has been the story of our season.
The confidence returns with a win and we don’t follow that up. It is a huge football club with a great fanbase and we have to handle playing here at the Ricoh Arena. The team has not particularly performed consistently, we have to change that mindset,” said the Coventry manager.
